Initially flagged for improvement in the 2014 Globeville Neighborhood Plan, Washington Street connects the industrial heart of Globeville to residential areas and the expanding National Western Center (NWC). As the region undergoes development, the street—currently defined by bumpy, narrow lanes and insufficient sidewalks—will see transformative changes including wider sidewalks, dedicated bicycle lanes, and enhanced greenery that contribute to a more inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

According to District 9 City Council Member Darrell Watson, the initiative fulfills a decade-long promise to prioritize safety and neighborhood accessibility. The construction is expected to span two years and will be funded largely by the $23 million allocated in the Elevate Denver bond, which was approved by voters in 2017.
